Types of Heating Systems We Service

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps not only have the ability to heat your home, but also provide air conditioning as well. Heat pumps consists of two main components: an indoor air handler and an outdoor unit very similar to a central air conditioner, but referred to as a heat pump. The outdoor unit contains a compressor that circulates refrigerant that traps and releases heat as it travels between the indoor and outdoor units. They are a great multifunctional choice for moderate climates, however in extreme winter conditions, an additional heat source may be needed.

Furnaces

Furnaces operate with a central air system, which heats air in a one area and then distributes it throughout the home via a network of ductwork and vents. When a furnace creates heat, combustion gases are expelled out the home via a flue pipe. Furnaces are one of the most affordable options available, especially if a gas-powered or electric-powered system is chosen. It can also be one of the safest ways to heat your home. Out of all the different kinds of heating systems, furnaces cause the least amount of fires, in comparison to chimneys, space heaters, and wood burning stoves. In addition- most furnaces these days come with safety switches that prevent fires from starting in the first place, and prevent toxic fumes such as carbon monoxide from entering the home.

Boilers

Boilers produce warm air through heating oil or water in a large tank. Rather than utilizing ducts to circulate warm air throughout the house, the heated water from a boiler system is circulated through pipes to alternate end points located inside your home (generally as radiators or baseboard heaters) to create radiant heat. The benefit of boilers is that they tend to produce cleaner heat and entail lower repair and operation costs. In addition, they are generally a more energy-efficient option than forced-air systems.

Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pumps

Mini-splits are heating and cooling systems that allow you to control the temperatures in individual rooms or spaces. Mini-split heat pumps are not only great solutions for whole home or new constructions but make good retrofit add-ons to houses with “non-ducted” heating systems, such as hydronic (hot water heat), radiant panels, and space heaters (wood, kerosene, propane). They can also be a good choice for room additions where extending or installing distribution ductwork is not feasible, and energy efficient new homes that require only a small space conditioning system.
